A Winters day in the Blue Mountains

What was meant to be a quiet day at home, turned in to road trip up to the World Heritage listed, Blue Mountains.

With a picture perfect day, why should i have been surprised that the rest of the population would have had the same idea. I took the chance to have a look around Katoomba Cascade Falls, down the road from the famous ‘Three Sisters’.

Although there was plenty of foot traffic around the falls, and many photographs to be taken, i took a couple of minutes to soak in the winter rays, and listen to the calming sensations of water running over the mossy and jagged rocks.

After an hour or so trying to perfect photos of natures finest, I headed off to explore other areas of the Mountains.

Wentworth Falls was next on the list, and thankfully, with much lesser of a crowd. I threw the backpack on, camera in hand and off to explore a number of lookouts off Hippocrene Falls Walking Trail. Unfortunately with the light starting to fade, i couldn’t take advantage of the longer trails. Hoping for an epic sunset, i was not in the right spot for what i was hoping would be the perfect frame. Stopping along the way, there were a number of interesting things to shoot, including a fireplace within the scrub, a set of sandstone stairs and a couple of scenic small lookouts.

For a last minute trip, i can certainly say it was one to remember. We are certainly lucky to have the freedom to explore places like this, in our own backyard.
